Ways to Send Money Home from Saudi Arabia: Apps, Banks and Exchange Services
The main options
People in Saudi Arabia usually send money home in one of three ways. The best choice depends on how often you send, how much, how fast it needs to arrive and how comfortable you are with mobile apps.
1. Remittance apps
Mobile apps from banks and licensed providers, such as Enjaz, STC Pay, D360, Tiqmo and others, let you send money from your phone without visiting a branch. They usually show the rate and fee before you confirm, and many support bank-account, wallet or cash payout depending on the country. They are convenient for regular transfers, and because the rate is shown in the app it is easy to compare.
2. Bank transfers
If you have a Saudi bank account, you can send an international transfer through your bank's app, online banking or a branch. This can suit larger transfers or people who prefer to deal with their own bank. Check the exchange rate and the fees, including any charge by the receiving bank, because a bank transfer can be less competitive on small amounts.
3. Exchange and transfer services
Licensed exchange and transfer services with branches let you send money in person, sometimes with cash. This can help if you do not have a bank account or a smartphone, or if the family wants cash pickup. Ask for the rate and fee before you hand over any money, and keep your receipt.
Whichever you choose
- Use providers licensed to operate in Saudi Arabia.
- Ask for the rate, the fee and the amount the recipient will get, in writing or on screen.
- Keep the transaction reference or receipt until the money has arrived.
- Never send money through an informal channel that cannot give you a receipt.
